Each year the event attracts a great number of anglers and is a highly regarded event on the Tournament circuit.  We were very pleased and proud that the tournament attracted 51 boats and 212 anglers for the 2008 tourney. This is close to being a record for the tournament. There were boats from Victoria, Queensland and basically from everywhere in between. It was a big effort from anglers to support our tournament with fuel prices and the current economy.
The weather conditions for the tournament were very ordinary with only one day fished due to sea conditions, but this is the first time on record. The Tournament Director and Committee considered the safety of all vessels, no matter what size, to be paramount in the circumstances. Unfortunately there was more money spent on beer than fuel.  But all in all, most people said they enjoyed themselves and they’d be back in 2009.
The 2009 Club Marine Insurance tournament will again offer over $40,000 in cash and prizes thanks to our great sponsors. There will be eight categories along with runners-up for boat prizes in each Line Class Tag & Release and Capture Sections, plus one category for T & R Most Marlin Boat up for grabs.
The committee has once again improved the tournament and facilities offered, for both competitors and sponsors alike.

3rd Champion Boat T & R - Blackfin - Skipper Wayne Steel, Bob Crutchfield, Shannon Danby, Junior Dylan Steel (back)
Last month at Port Macquarie, Wayne Steel’s ‘Blackfin’, with Dylan Steel, Shannon Danby, and Bob Crutchfield as crew, headed down to Port Macquarie to represent the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club in the 25th Golden Lure Game Fishing Tournament.
Â
Skipper Wayne Steel thought he had a good plan, so he and his crew of Dylan Steel, Shannon Danby and Bob Crutchfield were ready to give it everything from the first day of the competition… and as it turned out, they were on fire! By the end of fishing on the first weekend, they had caught four marlin in two days, and were coming a very close second in the tournament.
Â
Skipper Wayne’s son, 15 year old Dylan, had caught one Blue and two Striped Marlin. This was outstanding and made him a standout on the individual leader board especially the junior point score whilst also threatening to take over the senior point score as well.  Fellow angler Shannon Danby was impressed with his Striped marlin tag which helped their score along very close to the overall lead.
Â
All on board were very pleased with their efforts over the first weekend and apart from losing some vital lures, all they could hope was that the following weekend’s weather and fish would be on par with their challenge.Â
Â
And Thursday/Friday weather was …

Team Seaborn
Nicholas “Lambchop” Edwards captured this 25kg mahi-mahi while fishing in the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club’s monthly competition on 3rd January 2010. Â
Â
Fishing on local boat ‘Seaborn’ skippered by Clayton Livingston, Nic had a 15 minute battle before this great fish succumbed to his skills, and subject to confirmation, should bag both the NSW and Australian junior 24kg tackle record for mahi-mahi .

What a catch!!
Our friends from Ettalong will be visiting us over the weekend 23-24 January 2010. Meet and greet at the Deep Sea Fishing Club Saturday afternoon, with a morning’s fishing on Sunday.

Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club is very proud to welcome Club Marine Insurance on board as the new Naming Rights sponsor for the Hot Current Game Fishing Tournament.
Committee members met recently with Andrew O’Reilly, NSW State Manager Club Marine Insurance and Brett Edmonds, Club Marine representative to successfully finalise details of a three year sponsorship contract.
Andrew said it was an easy decision to come on board. As a premier New South Wales fishing event, Club Marine Insurance are happy to support the tournament and in turn, the local community of Coffs Harbour.
Club Marine Insurance is the number 1 provider of Pleasurecraft insurance in Australia, and it is underwritten by one of Australia’s largest insurers, Allianz Australia.
It doesn’t matter whether you own a runabout, a cruiser, or a racing yacht, insurance arranged by Club Marine Insurance is designed to meet your particular needs.
The Club Marine Insurance Hot Current Game Fishing Tournament has been set down for 13th to 17th November 2009 and is expected to again attract huge numbers of keen anglers and vessels nationally, to the Coffs Coast.
From all accounts, this week has been magic on the water for those who managed to get a free day. Â Last Friday started the weekend well with Dark Side, Seaborn and Foreign Exchange sharing some space on the water.
Â
Dark Side Skipper Norm Dark managed to put his first mate Daran and new members onto some sport with tag and release of Yellowfin Tuna before lunch. The afternoon proved more interesting. In true game club spirit, they called everyone into birds working tuna out on the shelf.
Â
Seaborn Skipper Clayton Livingston decided to troll around the tuna looking for a big Blue Marlin. Crew John Hardwick and Sultan Linjawi were on alert after the dead morning. Dark Side continued their game plan seeking out a nice Marlin for new members Andy Summers of GM Mayfly Tackle and his father-in-law Graeme.
Â
They both had never caught a Marlin before and in fact this was the first time they had fished for them.   It was Andy’s luck to be on the rod to play with a nice Striped Marlin when it challenged the lure. The game plan had worked once again and persistence won out.
Â
The excitement was evident for Andy and Graeme after all the hard work had been done and the 80kg Striped Marlin was tagged and released successfully. Seaborn experienced a hit from a Striped Marlin, but finicky as they are, decided not to continue the strike.
Â
For the rest of the afternoon, the boys had fun with Yellowfin. Dark Side scored another eight. Seaborn added another four Yellowfin tags along with a nice 22.5kg Dolphinfish by Sultan Linjawi.
Â
The weekend proved quiet for most. Tom Langley with David Lindsay ventured out on A Frayed Knot tagging a couple of Yellowfin. Dark Side took it easy with just a couple of Yellowfin Tuna on Saturday. …
