Pending Australian and NSW Junior Mahi-Mahi game fishing record falls to local lad

Team Seaborn

Team Seaborn

Nicholas “Lambchop” Edwards captured this 25kg mahi-mahi while fishing in the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club’s monthly competition on 3rd January 2010.

Fishing on local boat ‘Seaborn’ skippered by Clayton Livingston, Nic had a 15 minute battle before this great fish succumbed to his skills, and subject to confirmation, should bag both the NSW and Australian junior 24kg tackle record for …

News from the Flybridge 6/2/10

It may have been quiet out on the continental shelf off Coffs Harbour this week, but the game fishing at another nearby north coast hot spot has been on the boil - if you happened to be there on the right day, Southwest Rocks was red hot last week.

Many of us who have been out thrashing up and down the shelf off Coffs recently have heard radio reports from boats off SW Rocks about how …

News from the Flybridge 30/1/10

With a couple of noteworthy exceptions, it’s been a relatively slow week. It seems that the game fishing off the Coffs Coast at the moment is fairly up and down, with no real pattern to it. One day, someone does very well, the next day, despite almost identical conditions, another boat in the same spot comes up empty handed, which is starting to get a bit frustrating for those of us who would have expected …

News from the Flybridge 23/1/2010

It’s been a week of gorgeous weather on the Coffs Coast, but the game fishing has slowed down somewhat. Still, there are plenty of mahi-mahi being caught out there, and a few minutes with one of these incredibly pretty blue, green and gold fish dancing across the water on light tackle is enough to get the pulse of even the most jaded marlin fisherman up.

Of course, the biggest news came from down at Port Macquarie …

News from the Flybridge 16/1/2010

The Coffs Coast has taken off! It’s been a big week, with a lot of boats out, great weather conditions, and a lot of fish caught.

Despite the EAC being so far out to sea you’d need a seaplane and a packed lunch to get to it, there have been huge numbers of game fish in the cooler water along the continental shelf, although they’ve only been on the bite intermittently. For example, last Thursday, everything …

NEWS FROM THE FLYBRIDGE For 20th December 2008

Mid season and the waters off Coffs Harbour are alive with fish to bring those points into play on the scoreboard both locally and for the Northern Zone challenge.  And it is great to see that members of the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club are once again enthused to wet a line in almost any conditions.

The Dark Side fishing team had a blitz over the weekend.  Skipper Norm Dark took Daran Ryan and Paul McFarlane …

NEWS FROM THE FLYBRIDGE For 13th December 2008

Last Saturday was an outstanding day for the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club as 61 anglers on 16 vessels enjoyed the last comp of the year.

Most boats were on the water early and Strike me Blue angler Steve McGinty tagged a Dolphinfish just after “commence fishing” was sounded.  This was destined to be a good day.

Seaborn “hooked up” came the call.   It was Clayton Livingston at the helm with son Billy working the rod on …

News from the Flybridge 18/10/08

With a reasonable weather prediction, thirteen boats and forty-four anglers of the Coffs Harbour Game Fishing Club took to sea last weekend to compete in the Overnight Northern Zone Challenge as well as the October two-day monthly competition.

It was a later start than normal but amazingly calm conditions made the trip out pleasant.  All vessels were searching to find good colour water and as the …
